Matakana Village Farmers Market

Every Saturday from 8am to 1pm the Matakana Market takes place in the heart of the village.

Local artisans, growers, producers and farmers come together to showcase their delicious fruits & vegetables, yummy home made baking and a wide range of locally produced wines, beers, olive oil and cheese's to name but a few.

This is very popular amongst locals and tourists and is a must visit whilst in Matakana.

Morris & James

Morris & James Matakana is a traditional pottery creating some of New Zealand’s only handmade large-ware pots & planters, since 1977. A range of ceramic works available, including kiwiana & interior décor, created with clay harvested on-site in Matakana.

Browse through the extensive pottery showroom, or take a factory tour at 11.30am, any day of the week.

Matakana Cinemas

Golf
  • Omaha Beach Golf Club - This 18 hole, par 70 Golf Course is 10 minutes drive from Matakana towards Omaha Beach. It's a links style resort course, crafted by its designers to make the most of its stunning seaside location. Considered by a growing number of serious golfers as a hidden treasure in New Zealand.

  • Warkworth Golf Club - This Club is 10 minutes drive along Matakana Road to Warkworth. The par 72, 5694m course is laid out on a gently rolling landscape with superb fairways and ample tree cover. Water features add to the natural beauty – so come play the grand old game and enjoy your day at Warkworth.

  • Wellsford Golf Club - Wellsford Golf Club is situated just south of the stunning town of Wellsford. Approximately 25 mins from Matakana this !8 hole, par 70 is only 5088m but requires plenty of course management to get around.

Fun things for the family

 

  • Sheepworld - NZ Sheep & Wool Centre - 324 SH1 (4km north of Warkworth). Open 9am - 5pm everyday except December 25th.

  • Ti Point Reptile Park - 27 Ti Point Rd, Leigh. Open daily 10am - 5pm.

  • Horse riding Warkworth - Horse riding and trekking for all ages and abilities through scenic farm and forest.

  • Waiwera Hot Pools - is a large thermal spa situated in Waiwera, approxiametly 30 minutes south of Matakana. The park is New Zealand's largest water park. The complex claims 350,000 visitors per year and consists of 26 pools plus various slides.

Hiking & Biking

 

  • Matakana Cycle Ride - Matakana trails ride to Omaha and Point Wells. This ride is 14km or about 1 hour and has a mix of off-road shared paths, cycle lanes and quiet roads with 50km – 70km hour speed limits.

  • Tawharanui National Park - Tawharanui Regional Park is situated on a peninsula in the Matakana Coast Wine Country and combines farming, conservation and recreation in an ecological open sanctuary.  Tawharanui boasts some of Auckland's most beautiful white sandy beaches, rolling pastures, shingled bays, native coastal forest and regenerating wetlands. Can also view this beautiful scenery and local wildlife on bike.

  • Leigh by the Sea Walks - The Coastline between Ti Point and Goat Island offer up to 5 great walks, which will provide you with stunning views over the Northern part of the Matakana Coast Wine Country.

  • Mahurangi Regional Park  - Mahurangi Regional park protects three peninsulas at the mouth of the historic and picturesque Mahurangi Harbour. Mahurangi spans across the Puhoi River, north of Wenderholm, and along Te Muri Beach to Sullivans Bay and Mita Bay.

  • Dome Valley Summit Track - this track offers some amazing views including a mystical Kauri grove featuring some very old Kauri trees. The walk itself starts fairly easy going but turns into a serious tramping track so make sure you're nice and fit for this one.

  • Puhoi Walking & Hiking Tracks - Puhoi has some great walking options - either take a walk around the Puhoi Heritage Trail or join part of the Te Araroa Trail.
